Scottish Dancing in Sorrento in March 2020
Excursions
On
these
holidays
I
like
to
offer
optional
excursions,
as
many
people
do
not
want
to
hire
cars
but
are
interested
in
visiting places of interest in the area.
This
year
we
will
visit
Herculaneum
and
the
amphitheatre
at
Pozzuoli,
take
a
scenic
tour
along
the
Amalfi
coast,
and
Walk
the
Path
of
the
Gods
(for
keen
walkers
during
the
first
week)
or
take
a
more
gentle
walk
from
the hotel to Massa Lubrense on Wednesday of the second week.
Herculaneum
has,
most
unfairly,
been
overshadowed
by
Pompeii’s
fame,
though
it
is,
in
fact,
more
interesting,
better
preserved
and
far
easier
to
navigate.
(Pompeii
is
also
closer
to
Sorrento
and
easily
accessible
by
the
local
train
which
stops
at
the
entrance.)
For
this
trip
we
will
have
a
qualified
tour
guide,
and
personal
headsets
and
the
day
also
includes
a
visit
to
the
nearby
Amphitheatre
Flavio
at
Pozzuoli
,
the
3
rd
largest
of
the
Roman world (Rome and Capua being larger).

For the day trip along the Amalfi Coast we will have 20-seater coaches (the maximum size allowed) each with
a guide. We will visit Positano, Amalfi and Ravello and there will be an opportunity for a boat trip from Amalfi
(weather permitting) which is well-worth considering.
Amalfi Coast Guide
Sorrento
is
a
very
interesting
place
in
its
own
right
and
is
where
you
can
get
a
boat
trip
to Capri if the weather is suitable.
Sorrento Guide
There are many opportunities for walkers near the hotel - Keith Rose (of diagram fame) is a
good person to talk to!
Pompeii is one of the most extensive and intact ruins of an ancient city, anywhere in the world.
And of course overshadowing the whole area, Mount Vesuvius is still an active volcano.
